We are manufacturers of Pressed Steel Radiators (of Transformers). Please let us know if CR2 grade (drawing grade) of CRCA is suitable for temperatures of -40 degree C. What is the minimum temperature that it can withstand?

Thank you for your question. Though we have not done tests on CR2 material with respect to susceptibility to secondary cold work embrittlement at -40 deg C, based on the understanding this material should be able to withstand a temperature of upto -35 to -40 deg C.
Ultra low carbon steel which is susceptible to failure at low temperatures can also withstand upto -30 deg C with proper alloying. Hence the drawing grade variety like CR2 which has a higher C should be able to withstand about -35 to -40 deg C. Hope this information is useful.
