Process Improvement Series Part 2: A3 Problem Solving

Date: 15-02-2018

Conducted by:

A N Singh

Value Stream Mapping is a lean technique used to detect process “problems” which are causing defects, delays, inventory pileup and other waste that reduces customer value. After identification of problems a roadmap for value stream improvement is developed. Each problem is solved using A3 Problem Solving Technique (Kaizen) in the next phase of Lean activity.

Process Improvement Series Part 1: Value Stream mapping

Date: 24-01-2018

Conducted by:

A N Singh

All products are manufactured in a set of sequential processes, a Value Stream. In every value stream two types of activities are performed “value-added” and “non value-added”. Value added activities facilitate production and delivery of quality products as per requirement of customer, where as non-value added activities generate undesirable waste in form of defective products, waiting, extra inventory, etc, which increases cost of products and delays delivery. To improve quality, reduce cost and prevent delays in delivery, it is essential to reduce the waste being generated in the value streams (processes) of manufacturing system. To reduce or eliminate the waste, two types of activities are essential: 1. Diagnostic Journey: Detection of process “problems” - the source of waste, which is done through Value Stream Mapping. 2. Remedial Journey: Elimination of waste by “problem solving”. This is a Kaizen activity known as A3 Problem Solving Both the above processes are complementing each other. Managers of all kinds of organizations must learn and apply in their processes to improve Quality, Cost & Delivery to attain competitiveness.

Cost Management - the Kaizen Way!

Date: 11-07-2017

Conducted by:

Lean Management expert, Akhilesh Singh

Traditionally cost management is considered as a ‘commercial and accounting’ activity, generally managed by cost accountants and purchase executives, but it is really a process improvement activity. Unless processes and operations are improved, cost cannot be reduced and controlled. To improve processes, people must ideally apply the concepts of ‘value & waste’ and 'Kaizen’. The concept requires that waste must be eliminated/minimised and that can be made possible through ‘Kaizen’. Tata Steel has started a series of 'Manufacturing Excellence Webinars' to improve the process performance in customer organisations and enhance global competitiveness. In this unique webinar Lean Specialist Akhilesh N Singh will explain how 'Kaizen' as a system-based approach can be applied to reduce the cost on continuous basis.

Inventory Reduction through Just In Time (JIT) Technique

Date: 28-04-2017

Conducted by:

Mr. A.N.Singh

Today every industry needs to reduce cost in addition to improving quality and on-time delivery. As per Lean manufacturing, “inventory” is one of the 7 deadly wastes of any industrial organization that increases cost, reduces profitability and requires more working capital without adding any value to the customer and organization. Unfortunately, in our traditional accounting system inventory is shown as an “asset” whereas it is a most expensive “liability”. The high inventory helps only banks to earn more interest from the producer, because of poor inventory management system. This fact was discovered by Toyota Motor Corporation and they developed a unique “Just-In-Time” technique to reduce inventory to the minimum possible level by linking sales-production-procurement processes. Just-in-time (JIT) is an inventory management strategy companies employ to increase efficiency and decrease waste by procuring goods only as they are needed in the production process, thereby reducing inventory costs. JIT technique is equally effective in Small, Medium and Large enterprises. How to apply JIT in small and medium organisations to reduce overall cost by inventory reduction? The webinar will be conducted by Lean Specialist Akhilesh N Singh and is scheduled to be held on 28th April 2017. Learn the most efficient and effective technique of JIT to enhance the global competitiveness of your products.

Indirect tax proposals in Budget 2017 and GST Roadmap

Date: 27-01-2017

Conducted by:

Mr. Ankit Kanodia

Union Budget 2017 would be a unique budget for various reasons - first this time the budget will be presented on February 1, instead of accustomed date of February 28, second the rail budget would not be presented separately, instead would be merged with the Union budget, thirdly this could be last budget for current indirect taxes, in case the much awaited Goods & Services Tax (GST) is implemented during next financial year.
With recent statement made by Union Finance Minister on deferment of GST roll out date, the focus of the industry has slightly shifted from addressing GST issues to alignment of present indirect tax structure.
The expectation of industry is that the government will take necessary steps in this budget to bridge the gap between the present indirect tax structure and the GST structure so as to avoid sudden surprises to taxpayers.
CA Ankit Kanodia, highly reputed and experienced indirect tax consultant, will discuss issues related to indirect tax proposals - don't miss this opportunity to get your doubts cleared.
